A female postgraduate hall of residence at the University of Benin was destroyed by a fire that broke out around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19.
According to unconfirmed sources, the incident was caused by a power surge in one of the apartments upstairs, which spread to other rooms on the same floor.
According to accounts, the event disrupted all school operations, particularly for pupils who were attending lectures in their various classes. Though no one was killed in the incident, the fire entirely destroyed all of the apartments upstairs in the one-story building, leaving just the rooms downstairs to be salvaged.
