Cristiano Ronaldo becomes first men’s player to score in five World Cups, performs SIUU celebration
Ronaldo started for Portugal against Ghana in their World Cup opening despite recently having his contract with Manchester United terminated.
The captain of Portugal had a goal in the first half ruled off, but in the 65th minute, he won a contentious penalty after collapsing under a push from a defender of Ghana.
Lawrence Ati-Zigi was beaten by Ronaldo’s penalty shot as he wheeled away and resumed his SIUU celebration.
At the 2006 World Cup final in Germany, Ronaldo scored his first World Cup goal—also a penalty—against Iran. He is still scoring at the age of 37 all these years later.
However, Fernando Santos’ team found Ghana to be a difficult opponent, as Andre Ayew, a former Swansea and West Ham striker, brought the score even in the 73rd minute.
