Mental health stigma remains a major issue in Nigeria, preventing many from seeking help. Cultural beliefs and societal misconceptions often portray mental health struggles as weakness, leading individuals to avoid professional care. This reluctance to open up about mental health challenges leaves people suffering in silence.

The stigma attached to seeking therapy or counseling is rooted in myths that view mental health conditions as spiritual problems or personal failings. Changing these perceptions requires greater awareness and education. By normalizing mental health discussions and promoting open dialogue, we can encourage more people to seek the help they need.

It’s time to break the stigma and create a supportive environment for mental health care in Nigeria.
