Nigerian cinemas raked in N378 million in August
According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the country’s theatres sold 378 million Naira worth of tickets in August.
According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the country’s theaters sold 378 million Naira worth of tickets in August.
The national president of CEAN, Ope Ajayi, revealed this on Tuesday. He claimed that as compared to the N294 million realized in August 2021, the figure represented a 28% rise.
However, Mr. Ajayi pointed out that ticket sales in August were down 19% from the N471 million they were in July.
“Over NGN378 million was made at the box office by the 37 films that were released in August. The CEAN president said that 13 Hollywood pictures made 72.4% of the total, while 16 Nollywood films brought in a little bit more than 22%.
He also said that Thur: Love and Thunder, Bullet Train, Beast, Hey You!, and League of Surpets were the top five highest-grossing movies in August.
Thor: Love and Thunder continued to be the top-grossing movie with N80 million in the month, bringing its lifetime box office earnings in Nigeria to over N350 million as of August 31.
Mr. Ajayi also revealed that the months of September would see the release of “The Woman King” and “Brotherhood,” two major blockbusters.
Despite the high rate of rains experienced in numerous cities, especially Lagos, the CEAN president highlighted that both had the potential to make September 2022 the best since the foundation of the Nigerian box office, with revenues predicted to surpass N700 million.
The great Viola Davies will deliver a brilliant performance in Sony’s brand-new, fast-paced epic drama/thriller, “The Woman King,” he continued. Therefore, if green screen enthusiasts believe they witnessed action at its pinnacle last month, they should wait to see what the female warriors of ancient Dahomey have in store.
