After being hushed during the World Cup, football associations are considering leaving FIFA.

In response to the decisions made by the world governing body in Qatar during the World Cup, Denmark is preparing to hold discussions with other UEFA nations about the prospect of leaving FIFA.

Seven nations wrote to FIFA in advance of the World Cup to express their desire for their leaders to support LGBTQIA+ rights by donning armbands that read “One Love” throughout the competition.

Harry Kane was initially prepared to wear it regardless of what FIFA recommended because the governing body did not respond to the teams until the start of the competition.

That changed the night before England’s first match, against Iran, when FIFA said that any player wearing the armband would receive a booking or possibly worse sanctions.

Roy Keane was among many who criticized England for not grabbing the chance and choosing to have analyst Alex Scott wear it pitchside.

While sitting close to FIFA president Gianni Infantino following Germany’s shocking loss to Japan, German politician Nancy Faeser also wore the armband.

However, with warnings from some members to abandon the organization, the Swiss head of the governing body may have more urgent concerns to address after the competition.

Jesper Moller, the chairman of the Danish FA (DBU), has stated he is prepared to discuss the topic with the other 55 UEFA member countries.
“It is not a decision that has been made now. We have been clear about this for a long time. We have been discussing it in the Nordic region since August,” Moller said.

“I’ve thought it again. I imagine that there may be challenges if Denmark leaves on its own. But let us see if we cannot have a dialogue on things.

“I have to think about the question of how to restore confidence in FIFA. We must evaluate what has happened, and then we must create a strategy – also with our Nordic colleagues.”

The guy who succeeded Sepp Blatter, Infantino, is planning to fight for re-election as FIFA president, and Moller confirmed that the Danes will not be backing him.

FIFA holds presidential elections. There are 211 FIFA member nations, and from what I can tell, 207 of them have endorsed the current president.

Denmark is not among those countries. And we’re not going to be either.”

Germany was among the other teams upset when FIFA chose to penalise players for donning the armband after the competition had begun.

As they questioned if FIFA’s actions were even lawful, the 2014 World Cup champions threatened legal action against the group.

Belgian players were prohibited from wearing two of their uniforms, therefore the restrictions made by FIFA have had an impact on them as well.

The word “Love” was sewn onto the collar of the team’s white away uniform, and that was reason enough for the World Cup to ban the uniform.

Just 48 hours before they began their campaign against Canada on Wednesday night, they were denied the right to wear their pre-match shirt due to its excessive color.
