A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday evening in the Olorisaoko community within Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan, where a 14-year-old boy, Malik Kareem, was reportedly beheaded for ritual purposes.
The victim, who had just completed his final subject for the West African Examination Council at Iyana Community Grammar School, Olode, Moniya, Ibadan, was allegedly lured by three of his peers into seeking the services of a now-absconded Muslim cleric for a money ritual.
According to sources, the three boys had secretly conspired with the cleric to use Malik as part of the ritual. A family member recounted, “I was at home when one of my brothers rushed in to inform me of the tragic incident. We immediately went to the scene, only to find that the cleric had fled, and Malik’s body was discovered decapitated.”
The victim’s head had reportedly been burned, and his body was found in a pool of blood at the cleric’s residence. The boys had arranged with the cleric to use their friend for the ritual, during which Malik was strangled, decapitated, and cremated, with the remains intended for the ritual.
Following the gruesome act, unidentified youths from the area reportedly set the cleric’s house on fire.
State police command spokesperson Adewale Osifeso confirmed that an investigation has been launched. He assured the public that further information will be provided as it becomes available.
