(a) God as Creator and Controller of the Universe
In Genesis 1 and 2, we see a detailed account of God’s creation of the universe, including the heavens and the earth, plants and animals, and humans. The account of creation highlights God’s power and sovereignty over all of His creations. The Bible teaches that God spoke everything into existence and that He continues to sustain His creation.
Amos 9:5-6 describes God as the One who “touches the earth and it melts.” This passage emphasizes God’s power and control over the natural world. Similarly, Isaiah 45:5-12 teaches that God is the only true God and that He created the earth and formed it for His purposes.
The Psalmist in Psalm 19:1-6 describes how God’s creation displays His glory and reveals His handiwork. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies proclaim His handiwork. This passage emphasizes the beauty and majesty of God’s creation.

(i) Defining the Term ‘Sovereignty’
The term ‘sovereignty’ refers to the supreme power and authority of God over all things. It emphasizes that God is the ruler and controller of the universe and that He is in control of everything that happens.

God’s process of creation involved speaking everything into existence. He created the universe, the earth, and everything in it. He did this through a series of commands, separating light from darkness, water from land, and creating living creatures.

The sequence of creation outlined in Genesis 1 highlights the order in which God created things. On the first day, He created light, and on the second day, He separated the waters. On the third day, He created land and vegetation, and on the fourth day, He created the sun, moon, and stars. On the fifth day, He created sea creatures and birds, and on the sixth day, He created land animals and humans.
(iv) Identifying Man’s Role in Advancing God’s Purpose in Creation
Man’s role in advancing God’s purpose in creation is to serve as stewards of the earth. In Genesis 1:28, God gave humans the task of having dominion over the earth and subduing it. This means that humans are responsible for taking care of the earth and its resources. It also means that humans have a responsibility to use the earth’s resources wisely, to ensure that they are used for the benefit of all people and future generations. Ultimately, humans are called to glorify God through their actions and stewardship of His creation.
