Apply for the NIMASA World Maritime Day Essay Competition 2024. The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) World Maritime Day Essay Competition is now open for submissions. This year’s theme, “Navigating the Future: Safety First!“, encourages participants to explore maritime safety and environmental protection in line with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) goals.

Essay Topic

Participants should write an essay on “Navigating the Future: Safety First!“, focusing on the importance of safety, security, and environmental protection within the maritime industry in the face of technological advancements.


Eligibility Guidelines

The competition is open exclusively to students from Maritime Tertiary Institutions and those with maritime-related departments. Applicants must provide proof of studentship, such as admission letters and identity cards from their institutions.

  • Essays should be double-spaced in MS Word format, with font size 12.
  • Plagiarism and the use of AI tools are strictly prohibited.

Submission Requirements

Along with your essay, you must include the following personal details:

  • Full Name
  • Telephone Number
  • Email Address

Essays that do not adhere to these guidelines will be disqualified. Submit your entries to both wmdessay@nimasa.gov.ng and mail@samuelson.com.ng.


Prizes and Awards

The winners will receive the following prizes:

  • 1st Place: N500,000 Education Grant, Laptop, Plaque, and publication of the essay in NIMASA’s magazine, The Voyage, and on the NIMASA website
  • 2nd Place: N350,000 Education Grant, Laptop, and Plaque.
  • 3rd Place: N250,000 Education Grant, Laptop, and Plaque.
  • 7 Consolation Awards: N100,000 Education Grant and Plaque.

Deadline

The deadline for essay submission is Friday, September 13, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.


Prize Presentation

Winners will be contacted after the scoring process, and the prize presentation date will be announced.
