This phenomenon stems from various factors within Nigeria’s education system. Firstly, the competition for limited admission slots in universities, polytechnics, and colleges is fierce, leading to high cutoff marks and stringent admission criteria set by institutions.
Additionally, discrepancies may arise between JAMB scores and the performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or its equivalent, which institutions also consider during the admission process.
Furthermore, the mismatch between the preferred courses chosen by candidates and the available spaces in institutions exacerbates the situation.
